Privacy
What data SmotUp collects, including optional analytics, and how to control it.
SmotUp is a static, informational website. We don't operate accounts, comments, or forms, and we don't sell or share personal data with advertisers. The only data collection on the site is the optional analytics described below, which only runs if you agree to it.
Analytics cookies (optional)
With your consent, SmotUp uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site — which pages are read, roughly how people arrive here, and general device/browser/location information (city- or country-level, not a precise address) — so we can tell which guides are useful and where the site needs work.
A few things about how this works in practice:
- Analytics is off until you say otherwise. No analytics script loads, and no cookie is set, until you click Accept analytics in the banner shown on your first visit.
- Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting. Clicking Reject is a one-click action, same as accepting, and the site works identically either way — nothing is hidden or degraded if you decline.
- You can change your mind anytime. Use Cookie settings in the footer of any page to reopen the choice and switch analytics on or off.
- Google is a third-party processor for this data — see Google's Privacy Policy for how Google itself handles it. We don't control Google's own practices beyond configuring what we send it.
If you never interact with the banner, or you click Reject, none of this happens: no Google Analytics script loads, and no analytics cookie is set.
What we collect ourselves
Beyond the optional analytics above, SmotUp doesn't operate accounts, comments, forms, or any other feature that would ask you to submit personal information. Our web hosting provider may keep standard server-level logs (such as IP addresses and request timestamps) for security and operational purposes; that's separate from, and unaffected by, your analytics choice.
Links to other sites
Guides on SmotUp link to third-party websites — official project pages, repositories, and documentation for the software we cover. Once you follow one of those links, you're subject to that site's own privacy practices, which we don't control.
If this changes
If we add anything beyond the analytics described here — advertising, additional tracking, or any other non-essential cookie use — we'll update this page and require consent before that data collection begins, in line with applicable regulations such as GDPR and similar frameworks.
